Tobacco Prevention Events
Below are events that happen locally, statewide and on a national level. Many of the national and internation events have local celebrations as well. Your school can participate in almost all of these activities in one form or another.
The Great American Smokeout - This isn't about making great backyard barbeque. Each year on the third Thursday of November the American Cancer Society marks a day for all smokers to give quitting a try.
Kick Butts Day - Possibly the greatest organized activity across the country, this is celebrated in a lot of different ways. See what activities are in your area or create an activity if there is nothing nearby. The next Kick Butts Day is March 16, 2016.
World No Tobacco Day - The whole world will work together on this one. Great posters to use in your classroom, too. The link at the left goes to the 2015 page. Other years are also availalbe on this great resource site. The event is on May 31st every year.
Red Ribbon Week - This is dedicated to stopping illegal use of drugs. Nicotine is far more addictive than any narcotic and often leads to the use of other addictive substances. The history behind this week is very impressive. There is a link on the page specific to tobacco.
